File Policy

Welcome to the Hailey's On It! Wiki file policy guidelines. Before uploading files, please make sure to read the wiki's rules listed below.

This page will answer many of your questions pertaining to images and videos on the wiki. If you cannot find your answer, please ask a staff member.

Images

Uploading images

  • For image formats, you may upload photos with either the .png, .jpg or .gif extensions. We strongly prefer .png images for episode screenshots due to their higher quality than .jpg screenshots. The .jpg images, on the other hand, are used for artwork or photographic images, and .gif images are used for animations. If you upload a jpg it must at least be HD 720p, but it is only temporary and the {{ReplaceJPG}} should be put up to let users know.
  • Watermarked images are allowed, but these are considered "temporary" and must be replaced when a new image without the watermark is found.
      • The same goes for images uploaded with black bars on the top and bottom.
  • Do not replace episode or character images with your own image, relevant or not.
    • If you have a higher-quality picture than an image found on a gallery, feel free to replace it.
  • Any large scale re-upload of an entire episode for the purposes of replacing old images and improving quality must be first approved by an admin before its implementation. Please contact an admin if you wish to reshoot a gallery.
  • Don't upload small images (ex: 200x200px)
  • To upload a file to the wiki, a user must have an account over 4 days old.
  • For naming, try to provide each file with an appropriate name. Names that describe what the picture is about (ie. File:Hailey writes in her journal.png) are preferred. Avoid names that are nonsense, jumbled or otherwise hard to decipher.
    • For the episode title cards, use the following naming convention: [Episode Name] title card.png.
    • For infobox character images, use the following naming convention: [Character Name] - Profile. We like to try to keep this as consistent as possible.
    • For images that are not screenshots, try to name them as appropriately as possible.

Image information

When you upload an image on the wiki, you may provide the necessary information on the file's page by creating different sections, such as:

  • Summary: This is an optional field where one can provide information on the image and the meaning or purpose for it.
  • Source: This information is important and helpful, so specify where the file comes from. For example, the websites if you took it from internet.
  • Licensing: Please provide the right license for each image. More details on image licensing can be found in our copyright policy.
  • Categorization: After uploading a file, you may add the Images category using the button at the bottom; you don't need to create a section for it.
    • Categorization is not mandatory, but if you understand the category system, feel free to do so.

Acceptable and unacceptable images

Acceptable

  • Screenshots of a single frame from the show and panoramic images.
  • Animated gifs from official art sources or gifs that demonstrate what still images alone cannot do. Gifs that have been approved by an administrator.
  • Promotional artwork of an episode made by a crew member.
  • File extensions: .jpg, .png, .gif this is the standard requirement for the wiki and many file extension types (such as .BMP) are not uploadable.
    • Please, try to keep the extensions in lowercase; "Example.PNG" will be deleted.

Unacceptable

  • Any photos not canonical to series such as fan-art and edited files do not belong on articles. They should either be posted on a blog, user page, board thread, or talk page.
    • Fanarts that are made by crew members but are not related to the production of the show are not allowed.
  • Very low quality images, such as pictures of a TV instead of a screenshot, or blurry images in general.
  • Doctored images of any form.
  • Duplicate images will be deleted without warning, so the wiki doesn't end up cluttered with multiples of the same picture. First, check to see if the image you want to upload isn't already in the appropriate gallery. For screenshots, it's recommended you check the episode's gallery first.
  • Images unrelated to the topic of this wiki. We're not an image hosting site like Flickr, which exists for this purpose.
  • Animated gifs that are unnecessary and superfluous. Most gifs are made by users on social media sites (such as Tumblr) and may find taking them, especially without credit, as disagreeable.
  • Watermarked images - These are claimed by an owner as their property, and they may be offended if the image was taken without permission.
    • Note: TV, DVD, and sub watermarks are excepted from this rule. However, no image taken from Youtube may be used.
  • Both porn and nudity.
  • Files that are not in use will be deleted without warning.
    • If you wish to have a file restored, please contact an admin.

Infobox images

Please avoid adding to the Infobox images of past eras or ages, whether of Characters, Places, or Objects. For example, the character is in adult age, but their young appearance is known, instead of adding it to the Infobox, add it to the character's gallery page in an Ages section.

Videos

Videos are always automatically categorized under the Videos category. The videos on this Wiki are limited to certain areas. The kinds of videos allowed are also limited. See the following:

  • Videos must be related to the show.
  • Legal.
  • Officially released preview clips of episodes.
  • Commercials or promotional material.

They cannot be:

  • Fan videos for articles.
  • Fan speculation/theories videos for articles.
  • Full episodes and shorts. An exception is when Disney Channel uploads them in their entirety to their YouTube page.
    • Clips of episodes uploaded by non-Disney channels.
