"Beta'd and Hooked" is the first segment in the second episode of the first season of Hailey's On It!. It is also the second episode of the season overall and premiered on June 8, 2023 on Disney Channel to 0.10 million viewers.[2] Plot[]The intro to the series fades into Hailey sleeping in bed. She is dreaming about kissing Scott before she wakes up, spitting out her mouthguard and realizing that today was "the day." Scott pushes her window open stating the same thing, before they both excitedly announce that the day is the "45th Annual North Oceanside Fish Taco Festival," which is sponsored by the Bank of Temecula. Scott notices his pants are on backwards, before Beta comes out of Hailey's closet to say good morning. He wears a "get yoked" shirt, which Scott asks if Beta was working out. He says that he is working out because he has to be as strong in body as he is in mind, which Hailey gives him props before nudging Scott that obvious: Beta's a stuffed bear so he can't work out. Scott changes his response and follows Hailey's lead before Beta saying he heard excitement, and assuming Scott is moving away he reveals a banner and streamers which Scott likes, but says he's not moving though now he wishes he was. Hailey tells Beta the reason why their excited is because of the next list item, number 178: "Win first prize at the Oceanside Fish Taco Festival." Beta says he was supposed to tell them, but Hailey's right and has enthusiasm that he loves. Hailey and Scott show Beta their longtime project of the perfect ratio of taco to fish. To do so, Hailey used science and Scott used his tastebuds, which he calls taste butts. Beta calls him a neanderthal before Hailey reveals that the ingredients, science, her dad's sour poi and Scott's mom's famous kimchi, and with that the gang get started on their fish tacos in Hailey's backyard. They make a taco with those ingredients, before Scott adds the "secret ingredient of sweet onion Dingles. The kids share a bite, realizing their "fish taco" has no fish on it. Hailey asks Beta if they have any but they only have Mama Ishie's Fishy Stickies. Hailey is disappointed saying they aren't entering the rinky-dink San Clemente festival and that people drive tens of miles to enter the Oceanside festival. Kai comes out of the house, asking what Hailey and Scott are doing up so early on a Saturday. Still looking for a fish for their taco, Hailey asks her dad if he knows what the tastiest fish is. He tells her that he does, but the secret to finding a fish is the meaner the fish, the tastier. Hailey asks what the meanest fish is, and Kai tells the kids the tale of the meanest, biggest and the tastiest fish in all of Oceanside Bay: the Blue Ono, or One-Eyed Jack. Hailey asks Kai to just tell them, but he tells them his story anyway. Kai was on his paddleboard, one with the sea and once he was out past the breaks, he stopped for sweet onion Dingles before an angry force knocked him off his board. He tried to swim to the surface, but the riptide pulled him deeper and he saw the one-eyed monster coming straight at him with his mouth wide open, then the next thing he knew, he was on a beach with his broken paddleboard. Kai says he looked into the Ono's soul and he was mean, to which Scott says he sounds delicious. Hailey asks where they could find a boat, and he tells them to go to Uncle Chunk. On Uncle Chunk's boat, he takes Hailey and Scott out to where Kai said he say the Ono before his stomach rumbles loudly. Seeing him clutch his stomach, Hailey asks if he's okay and he tells her no since he bought his houseboat as an investment. He asks the kids if they know what that is but Scott says no and Hailey tells Chunk they're only 14. Chunk continues, saying it seemed like a good idea, but he hates water which is the main issue. He pukes from motion sickness and Scott tells him that he thinks the boat is cool, which prompts Chunk to ask them if they want to buy his boat and again, Scott says no and Hailey rebuffs that they're only 14. Chunk gets over it and tells the kids his rules: 1. Don't rock the boat, 2. don't get his boat wet and 3. no crying, which is specifically for him. He screams that he hates the boat, before entering the house. Beta pops out of Hailey's backpack is very enthusiastic about catching One-Eyed Jack. The kids grab their fishing gear and throw the reels. Beta asks why they're sitting, and Hailey explains that's what fishing is. He tells Hailey and Scott to fish hard, before hopping on the butt of the boat and calling out to the Ono and Hailey stops him, saying he'll scare the fish away. Scott tells Beta the quieter, the better and Beta rebuffs it back to Scott. 2 hours later, the gang still haven't caught a fish, but when Scott tosses Dingles up into the air for Hailey to catch, the Ono hops out of the water and eats the chips. Hailey realizes that the Ono wants the Dingles and tells Scott to put some on the line to catch it. The Ono grabs the line, pulling Hailey forward and making Scott fly back, hitting the door to the house. The Ono pulls the boat as it takes the chips, while Hailey is struggling and Beta is having fun, Scott remembers that Chunk won't like that the boat is moving and Chunk says he doesn't through the door, before puking again. Hailey says she can't hold on anymore but Beta and Scott try to help her before she gives up and cuts the bait. The boat halts to a stop as the trio fall to the ground. Beta grabs the harpoon and hops onto the butt again before shooting it and getting launched backward into the water. Hailey runs and grabs the harpoon, hoping Beta is still holding on, but he isn't and floats to the bottom of the ocean as his screen statics and he gets eaten by the Ono. On the surface, Hailey and Scott wish they had distracted or stopped him and Hailey sobs as she tells Scott how much Beta hated him. Just then, Scott spots a fin and Hailey thinks he's talking about the end of Beta, but she spots the Blue Ono's fin coming straight for them. The Ono jumps onto the boat and throws Beta back up, with Hailey realizing the Ono saved Beta and that he probably saved Kai from drowning that day on his paddleboard. As Beta lies in a puddle of water, Hailey rushes over and tells him to pull through. He wakes back up, due to being in water mode which didn't cause damage. He hugs Hailey and when Scott joins, telling Beta he'll never leave his side which makes Beta ask to be thrown back into the water. Chunk comes out of his boathouse and asks what happened before noticing the soaked deck. He says he'll never be able to sell a wet boat, prompting the kids to apologize. He takes the kids back to shore, and Beta's calculations start working again and he notifies the kids that the festival is starting soon. Hailey doesn't know what to do because they still don't have fish for their tacos, and later at the festival they use Mama Ishie's Fishy Stickies. Hailey assembles the taco once more, with Scott adding the special ingredient. The place their taco down and when the judge comes over, she examines, smells and then bites their taco, with the duo clinging to suspense. The judge takes another bite and tells them their taco is good. She says the fish doesn't take the flavor away from the kimchi or the poi. She asks what the savory crunch on top was and Hailey says it's a family secret, but Scott tells her what they really are: sweet onion Dingles. The judge takes yet another bite and declared Hailey and Scott the winners and they cheer as the other contestants protest since theirs was the first taco she tried. She says their taco is delicious and she has hot yoga in ten minutes so Hailey and Scott are crowned the winners, thus completing list number 178. Scott asks where Beta is and in the ocean, Beta rides the back of the Ono into the sunset. Cast[]Main Cast[]Additional voices[]
